Colored version (copic markers) of Ciel and Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji (aka Black Butler) in canine form. I am really happy with the results (it's been a while since I submitted something that has turned out of similar quality). I chose the following breeds to represent Sebastian and Ciel:
Ciel: Australian Cattle Dog I chose the cattle dog because they are small herding breeds with lots of energy and a serious personality (like Ciel). They also come in a blue fur coloring and some have a characteristic mask that covers their face. . . like an eyepatch. I changed the fur coloration to better match Ciel's character although the basic markings are modeled after the cattle dog breed.
Sebastian: Black German Shepherd Dog I chose the German shepherd dog for both personalty and physical appearance. They are agile strong dogs who are known for their loyalty and willingness to please their masters. The German shepherd is also a versatile breed that can preform any job from guarding to herding livestock to sniffing out narcotics/bombs. They are also intelligent and the black coloration fits Sebastian's character.
Firstly - just to let you know that I have already seen and admired this piece (as you can see by it already being in my favourites)!!
The things that I like the most: 1) The design, lines and shading of the coat on Sebastian. I love the way the coat tails are positioned and the fabric folds and shading are very skilfully done so that they look realistic and natural. It is not easy to design a coat for a dog! 2) The fur texture/shading. This is excellent on a lot of your pieces and a real strength of yours. Love how the neck fur is different to the main body fur (on Ciel) to show the different lengths and textures. 3) The overall layout/design of the piece. Lovely stylised background with some simple but well-chosen colours. The piece looks very balanced. The fact that the two feathers balance each other out in two corners is a nice touch too. 4) The anatomy. The poses are realistic and not at all awkward/stiff. You have used realistic dog anatomy, which is a often a rare thing on this site xD
To improve (very minor things as really I cannot find much): 1) The chess piece is a little lop-sided and not as smoothly drawn and accurate as the rest of the picture. It should be more symmetrical. This is only noticeable because the rest is so spot-on. It is your fault for drawing the rest so well lol. 2) Little touches in the background. Again - the characters are pretty spotless and the colouring is perfect. If you could match this (extremely) high standard when you colour the background also then the piece would be perfect (such as on the spikes in the circle).
Overall this piece demonstrates clearly your skill with copics. I really am a fan of this medium and especially when it is used this well. Love the layout, love the anatomy, love the picture
Wow, this looks really great. I'm not familiar with the characters, so I can't judge that... but the colours and the composition looks amazing Great work!
